Over 51,000 numbers disconnected By Government

You will now get very less telemarketing calls on your mobile phones because government has disconnected over 51,000 unregistered telephone numbers being used to carry out telemarketing activities till July, 2012.

Total 51,181 telephone numbers were disconnected by Indian government. This numbers of subscribers are  not registered as telemarketers and registered as normal connection. But telemarketing are carried out by these numbers. Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Milind Deora said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha Friday.

Notices have been served on nearly 88,300 subscribers who have carried out similar violations. As per 'The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010', subscribers not registered with TRAI as telemarketers cannot make any commercial communication. Data received from service providers show that the majority of complaints of Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) are against telecom subscribers who are not registered as telemarketer, Deora said.

In case it is found that the UCC originated from a subscriber who is not registered with TRAI as a telemarketer, the Originating Access Provider shall issue a notice to such subscriber to immediately discontinue sending such unsolicited commercial communications. If this erring subscriber sends a commercial communication to any subscriber on a second occasion, the telecom resources of such subscriber are disconnected.
